An essential role for the Civil Nuclear Constabulary is to provide the armed security of nuclear materials in transit
The Operations Planning Team for CNC Marine Escort and Road Escort groups is based in Cumbria. This team is responsible for ensuring that operational capability is maintained in respect of both Escort groups at all times.
From initial team selection, it takes around six months of part time specialist training for a Marine Escort member to be fully trained.
As a member of the Marine Escort Group you will be trained in a range of weapons including general purpose machine guns and naval canons with training being provided by the Royal Navy. Other training includes command and control of close range weapons, use of radar, sea survival, ship protection and the maintenance of weaponry. Advanced first aid and other specialist skills for sustained periods of time at sea, is part of the core training.
CNC Road Escort Group provides armed protection for designated movements of nuclear material from nuclear operators to designated UK ports. As a member of the Road Escort Group, you will work in joint policing operations involving all the Home Office, Scottish police and British Transport police forces. All operations are planned in accordance with the regulatory requirements stipulated by the Office for Civil Nuclear Security (OCNS) in the Nuclear Industry Security Regulations (2003).
