Dog Unit Section
The dog unit forms a crucial part of the security service offered by the CNC and many Officers who join us eventually focus their career with the Dog Unit section. The initial training undertaken is designed to meet the requirements of people who are both new and experienced at dog handling. The course adheres to the Association of Chief Police Officer requirements for General Purpose Police Dog Training. Instruction is provided to enable both the handler and dog to achieve a competent standard before starting any operational duties.
Regular refresher general Dog Training courses are available which combine basic training, refine dog handling techniques and assessment of the progress of both the dog and handler. You will also be trained in simulated practical incidents to strengthen the experience for both the handler and the dog.
All operational police dogs and specialist dogs are registered with ACPO by the Force Dogs Officer. Since 2005 updated assessment units for ACPO dogs have been introduced. These aim to encourage excellent through continuous improvement and better operational effectiveness.
'I feel that each time I come for refresher training, there has been a steady improvement in my dog handling skills'
