First 2 Years

Upon joining the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, your first few weeks will be spent attending a fourteen week Probationary Foundation Training course at our Constabulary Training Centre in Cumbria.

The Training Centre works in association with the National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) to benchmark best practices in police learning and development. The Probationary Foundation Training course has been developed into a modular framework. This approach allows serving, ex-serving or retired officers from other forces who have substantial policing experience to opt out of training elements that are not required.

Eleven months after joining the CNC, you will be returning to the Constabulary Training Centre in Cumbria for a further one week course for your continuous professional development (CPD).

Twenty three months after joining the CNC a further one week course will be attended by all new recruits to help expand knowledge base, reviewing performance and to ensure you have successfully completed the probationary period.

Your day to day duties will vary, but invariably will consist of a combination of the following areas:

  • Mobile and foot patrols - Armed response vehicles and dog teams
  • Police control rooms
  • Fixed point policing, access control and security searches - site entrances, inner areas
  • Building, security and perimeter checks
  • External site patrols
  • Alarm and incident response
