Application Process

Your application to join the Constabulary, will follow the process outlined below;

  1. Self Selection Questionnaire completed successfully
  2. Request application for employment
    Please allow 10 working days to be sent by post.
  3. Completed and return application form which includes a competency based assessment
  4. Application form assessed
    This can be a lengthy process which takes a minimum of 20 working days.
  5. Invite successful candidates to assessment centre
    Invites will be sent at least 20 working days before the assessment centre.
  6. Attend NPIA assessment centre
    Successful candidates will then be expected to undertake further CNC assessment activities including firearms brief, physical test and medical examination.
    These activities may not be held on the same date and may be held at different venues; therefore you may be required to attend on more than one occasion.
  7. Successful candidates will be subject to ten year's previous employment references, local intelligence office and military checks, security vetting by the Office for Civil Nuclear Security.
    Areas covered are as follows;
    • Military conduct reference checks (where applicable)
    • Police service reference checks (where applicable)
    • Achievement of desired level of security clearance
    • Medical examination, including drugs testing
    • Ten years of employment/academic references
    • Address verification / Electoral Roll checks
    • Financial checks
    • Local intelligence checks
    • Special Branch checks
    • Continued good conduct
  8. If all checks are successful, conditional offer letter will be sent stating a start date and posting.
    Once you have accepted the conditional offer, current employer references are sought.
    You will receive the conditional offer of employment at least four weeks before the start of the initial training course.
  9. Receive joining instructions and commence residential training at the CNC Training Centre in Cumbria for the Probationary Foundation Training course
    Joining instructions will be sent at least 5 working days before the course commences.
