A Unique Employer

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) are predominately an armed police service dedicated to the nuclear industry with Operational and Support Units based at Nuclear Sites in England, Scotland and Wales. Integral to the CNC is a close working partnership with both the Home Office and Scottish Police forces at each location.

Policing requirements at each nuclear site are agreed with the respective nuclear operators in accordance with the Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR) and approved by the Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR).

In April 2013, the CNC updated its Mission and Ambition, with the addition of a Credo as seen below:

AMBITION

To be recognised as the leading UK authority on the armed protection of civil nuclear facilities and material in transit.

MISSION

In partnership with the civil nuclear industry, national security agencies and regulatory bodies the CNC will deter any attacker whose intent is the theft or sabotage of nuclear material and deny access to it. If material is seized or high consequence facilities compromised the CNC will recover control of the facility and regain custody of the material.

CREDO

We are proud to be a part of the security structure which defends the nation. We deliver to our Mission by being recruited, trained, deployed and developed to the required national and international standards.

We are capable of carrying out our duties in a flexible and dynamic way, instilling in ourselves a clear sense of purpose. If we use force, we do so in a manner proportionate to the threat, recognising and upholding the principles enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights.

As officers, we exemplify in our duties the attestation made on our first day of service:

"I do solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that I will well and truly serve the Queen in the office of Constable with fairness, integrity, dilligence and impartiality... according equal respect to all people."

As members of staff, we share those ideals; all of us, whatever our role, recognising that it is only by acting together that the Mission can be achieved.

We have the courage to not only deliver to the Mission, but also to challenge ourselves constantly to improve and develop. We are selfless in our pursuit of the national interest, giving our fellow citizens confidence that civil nuclear material is safe from terrorist threat.
